Starting point for the London walking tour – Tower Bridge
Starting point for this London walking tour is Tower Bridge. If you are still planning your holiday and your stay in London, we would recommend the Tower Bridge area. There are plenty of hotels, shops, restaurants and pubs. The public transport links are also very good with both underground and buses. Another plus is that you will have gorgeous views and lovely places for a walk near the river Thames. Walking over Tower Bridge is a must. If you are lucky enough, you might even see it open. It happens when a large ship has to pass. The bridge opening schedule you can find here: https://www.towerbridge.org.uk/lift-times
China Wharf
The first place to see today is China Wharf. This is a residential area in one of London’s central neighbourhoods – Bermondsey. The buildings are on the edge of the river, forming a nice quay pedestrian path, full of nice restaurants. Walking in direction of Tower Bridge, we enjoy the view of the bridge and also the financial district on the other side of the Thames. Places for nice lunch or dinner here are: Browns Butlers Wharf, Blueprint Cafe, Ask Italian, All Bar One and others. Continuing in the same direction we will come across the Butler’s Wharf Pier, which offers better view of Tower Bridge and is a perfect spot for photos.
Potters Fields & HMS Belfast
The London walking tour continue as we pass under the Tower Bridge, which will lead us to Potters Fields Park. In the spring and summer months people gather here to have a coffee or a beer and to enjoy the landmarks. Don’t miss the small ice-cream truck. Even in winter this place has its own charm, because they build a cosy Christmas Market, offering delicious food and wine. This particular area is popular among tourists with the HMS Belfast. The ship was used by the Royal Navy and after that is transformed into a museum. Many people visit it every day.
The Shard
We will divert from the riverside a bit and will enter between the tall building leading towards the Shard and London Bridge station. The Shard in our opinion is one of the attractions everyone should see. It is a glass skyscraper and there is a bar on top. The view is unbelievable, but make sure you choose a clear day, because if it rains or is foggy, you will not be able to see.
Finishing point for the London walking tour – London Bridge
We finish the London walking tour in front of London Bridge station. It combines both train and underground. It is one of London’s busiest stations. If you have time to kill, there are some very nice shops and food places inside. One of the best things to see near the London Bridge station is Hayes Galleria: https://www.visitlondon.com/things-to-do/place/285671-hays-galleria. Its is an arcade with shops and restaurants. It will lead you from the busy street in front of the station to a calm and relaxing place. The Hays Galleria is always charming with its small stalls in the middle surrounded by bigger shops. On the other side it is on the river Thames and if you are lucky you may find a spot to have a coffee right there, enjoying the views.
